October 15, 1935– June 8, 2024

TORRINGTON – Dorothy Mae Vollmer went home to be with our lord on June 8, 2024. She was born on October 15, 1935 to Charles and Elaine Canfield. Dorothy had four children, Becky Francis (Marvin), Timothy (Debbie), Patrick (Laurel), and Chuck. She was a loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy grew up on the Canfield Ranch with her brothers Kenny, Duane, and Leroy, and sister Charlotte. After her children were born, she lived in several towns in Wyoming. She eventually planted roots in Torrington where she met the love of her life, Lee Matthews.

Dorothy brightened the lives of everyone she met. She knew the value of perseverance, hard work, and unconditional love for her family. She will be remembered for her unwavering strength and fierce independence. No one ever left Dorothy’s house hungry, or without a baggie of snacks for the road. Her homemade fudge syrup will forever be regarded as the ultimate ice cream topping by the Vollmer grandchildren.

Dorothy was an active member of the First Baptist Church and many organizations throughout her life. In the last few years, she enjoyed her membership in the Red Hat Society, TOPS, and serving with the Community Hospital Auxiliary.

Left to remember Dorothy are Lee Matthews, three generations of Vollmers, her many church friends, and her community. She leaves us all with fond memories and the warmth of her love.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 15 at First Baptist Church in Torrington. Colyer Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church.
