The sewing group has been preparing for their own Christmas Craft Fair at the Niobrara Senior Center this year. Among the volunteers are Mildred Lewis, Michelle Kruse, Amelia Mendoza, Vivian Fahy, Vi Proctor, Eve Titchener, Kate Brost, Karen Brennan, Marlene Dockery and Anne Whitehead.

Another project that has consumed a considerable portion of the ladies’ time has been two quilts, which will be raffled off on December 21 during their Christmas Dinner. It is their hope that the sale of these items will raise money for the Senior Center. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the Niobrara Senior Center, $1 per ticket or six tickets for $5. People are encouraged to stop by or call 334-2561.

The Senior Center’s Christmas Craft Fair began on December 11 and will end December 22. The daily fair activities run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is open to the public. Attendees can expect to find an array of items, including potholders, place mats, table runners, and wreaths. According to Jensen, scrubbies tend to be the most popular item.

During this time, preschoolers, Kindergarteners, and first-graders from Lusk Elementary/Middle School will have an opportunity to purchase items on the 25-cents table.

“This gives the little kids a chance to buy gifts for their families,” Jensen said. “We will have cookies and juice for them too.”

A Christmas Bake Sale will be held on December 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be cookies, rolls, candies and fudge. Donations are welcome and anyone can bring baked goods to sell. Contact Jensen at the Senior Center for details.

This year, the Christmas Dinner will feature prime rib donated by JD and Lauri Wasserburger.

The Senior Center will be closed on Christmas Day.
