Lady Tigers Bring Home 4th Place From State Meet

The Lady Tigers scored their highest State Track Meet point total in five years.  The Ladies scored 47 points to place 4th overall in Class 2A. 

The high jumpers led the way earning 2 All State awards in their event.  Junior Miranda Gilkey earned her first All State award clearing 4’ 10” en route to a gold medal.  Teammate Tillie Schmidt was right on her tail clearing 4’ 10” also, winning the silver medal. 

Gilkey wasn’t done as she also triple jumped 33’ 11” to place 4th and ran a 49.56 in the 300 hurdles to place 5th overall. 

Schmidt also earned a 7th place medal in the 100 hurdles in 18.64 and also barely missed the finals in the 100 meter dash running a 14.16.

Sophomore Taylor Gaukel earned All State honors in the triple jump going  a career best 34’ 7.25” to place second by .75”.  She also earned a 5th place medal in the 100 hurdles and missed the finals in the 300 hurdles after running 53.01.

Senior Marie Hendrickson had a career weekend placing in both throwing events.  She started the weekend off throwing 33’ .75” in the shot put to place 7th, and then on Saturday morning threw a career best 106’ 9” in the discus to place 8th. 

Fellow thrower Mackenzie Lyons threw 30’ 4.5” in the shot put, but missed finals. 

Freshman Miranda Mosley made the podium in pole vault clearing 8’ to place 6th while teammate Jalyn McDaniel cleared 7’ 6”.

The girls’ 4 X 400 relay team of Gilkey, Schmidt, Gaukel, and Mosley ran a season’s best 4:24, but missed 8th place by .03 seconds.

For the boys, Traylin Bruegger was the high placer running 41.43 in the 300 hurdles to place 3rd.  Bruegger also ran the 110 hurdles in 19.52 but missed finals.

The other placer for boys was high jumper Alec Penfield clearing 6’ to place 4th behind three Rocky Mountain jumpers.  Teammate Teagan Tschacher cleared 5’ 6” in high jump also.

The two senior pole vaulters struggled with the weather conditions with Riley Ross barely missing the podium clearing 11’ 6” while Jacob Muir cleared 10’ 6”.

The final boy competing was Jake Heil who threw the shot put 42’ 9.5”.

Overall, it was a great track season for both the girls and boys. The track banquet is scheduled for Thursday at the fairgrounds.
