In the second set, Niobrara County High School took the early lead and battled through the Lady Panthers tying it at seven. Adelle DesEnfants continued her late season serving surge in leading Lusk to an 18-12 lead. Another timeout wasn’t enough to cool her off as the Lady Tigers squared the match with a 25-13 win.
Saratoga regained their focus and tried to blow out NCHS with a 17-8 lead, but the Lusk girls didn’t fade easily. Strong net play from Renae Marker pulled the Lady Tigers back before faltering in the 25-19 third set.
In the fourth set, NCHS and the Lady Panthers traded leads and tie scores at nine, 13 and 17 before the visitors closed the match with an 8-2 run in another 25-19 score.
On Saturday the Lady Tigers went to Lingle to finish the regular season. All three sets were close nail-biters, yet the home team prevailed.
The Lady Doggers won the first two sets in matching 26-24 scores and held on for the sweep by a 25-22 count.
NCHS opens the 2A Southeast District Tournament on Thursday against Glenrock at 11 a.m. in Pine Bluffs. A win would qualify the Lady Tigers for state and a 4 p.m. matchup with the Pine Bluffs-Tongue River winner. They would then face a Northeast Quadrant team for seeding on Saturday.
