Lady Tiger's prevail at 2018 Lusk Fall Invitational

Posted

LUSK- In the last tune up for the State Championships the Lady Tigers had to go to a playoff to defeat the Wright Lady Panthers.  After two days of playing, the three Wright girls and Mackenzie Lyons, Makena Engelker and Jozalyn Potter were all tied up at 676 strokes each.  All six girls teed off number 1 at the Lusk Municipal golf course and the Lady Tigers prevailed 18 to 21 to win the Championship but this sets up great competition for the State Championship in Newcastle this weekend.  Mackenzie Lyons ended up in 4th place overall with a 210.  She was tied for 2nd with a 101 after Friday’s round and came in with a 109 Saturday.  That was just one stroke out of a tie for 2nd and 3rd and 5 strokes behind the winner, Cierra Nelson of Wright.  Makena Engelker shot a 225 after a great 103 on Friday.  This earned her 6th place overall and Joz Potter shot a 241 for 7th place overall.  Joz shot a 124 of Friday and 117 Saturday.    Each day the two teams were just four strokes apart and it will be an exciting finish to the season this weekend.

In the boys division, Micah Shaner again led the way shooting an 84 on Friday tying for 2nd place overall but a very uncharacteristic 97 on Saturday dropped him to 4th place overall with a 181.  Ben Eiden had a very good weekend shooting a 97 on Friday and a 98 on Saturday for a195 total and a 9th place finish overall.  This earned Ben his lowest finish of his career.  Jayden Matthews struggled again on Friday with a 137 but came back strong shooting one of his best rounds of the year with a 116 on Saturday.   Dalton Larson probably played his best golf of the year so far on Friday with a 122 but Saturday was not going to be his day and it was a struggle all day long for him.

Both teams play Friday and Saturday in Newcastle for the 2A State Championships.  Ten different teams will be competing ranging in size from Thermopolis and Lovell down to Upton.
