Lady Tigers suffer sweep

MOORCROFT – Niobrara County High School visited the WyoPreps.com’s fifth ranked Moorcroft Lady Wolves last Friday evening. The home team won the first two sets by 25-15 and 25-17 scores, before a much tighter third set. Moorcroft took a big early lead, but the Lady Tigers got back within two in the 25-23 defeat.

NCHS TEAM STATS: Serving 54/58; Kills 15/80; Assists 12; Digs 79/118.

NCHS PLAYER STATS: Serving- Melody ZumBrunnen 10/10; Adelle DesEnfants 6/6; Phoebe Allbright 6/6. Kills- Lily Krueger 6. Assists- M. ZumBrunnen 5; Hattie Nelson 4. Digs- Krueger 21; M. ZumBrunnen 14; Evelyn DesEnfants 11.

LUSK – On Saturday Glenrock visited Tiger Gym, and with a pair of six-foot hitters had the Lady Tigers scrambling to keep up. The visitors took a fast 7-1 lead and extended it to 14-4 moments later. After a timeout, NCHS made a run but it wasn’t enough in the 25-12 first set.

The second set was better as the Lady Tigers took a 10-9 lead before the Lady Herders slipped ahead. They closed the set with a 9-3 run in the 25-16 win.

A young, flustered Lusk squad never found a rhythm in the third set. They trailed 14-6 before another 9-3 run from the visitors to finish the match.

NCHS TEAM STATS: Serving 30/38; Kills 18/60; Assists 14; Digs 77/108.

NCHS PLAYER STATS: Serving- Nelson 7/7; Krueger 6/6; Allbright 4/4. Kills- M. Zumbrunnen 6; Jaden Stauffer 4. Assists- E. DesEnfants 5. Digs- M. ZumBrunnen 16; E. DesEnfants 14; Krueger 14.

The junior varsity team lost at Moorcroft in three close sets (14-25, 25-23, 21-25) as Nelson was 15/15 serving, and Jaylah Cummins 7/7. Nelson also had seven kills and six assists. Tessa Manning added four kills.

After dropping the first set 25-17 to Glenrock, Lusk rebounded to win the next two by 25-18 and 25-13 scores. Cummins and Gracie ZumBrunnen were perfect from the service line, while Paige Potter went 17/18 with five aces. G. ZumBrunnen had five kills and Nelson led with seven assists.

This week the Lady Tigers host Southeast on Friday afternoon (JV 3 p.m. and varsity to follow) before a trip to Glenrock on Saturday (JV 2 p.m. with varsity to follow).
