NCHS faced SEWAC rival Lingle-Ft. Laramie Friday night at Tiger Gym and while the first set was close all the way, the Lady Tigers prevailed 25-22. LFL answered with a 25-18 win in the second before Lusk showed their grit with 25-16 and 25-19 wins to secure the 3-1 victory.
TEAM STATS: 77 serves/81 atts, 6 aces, 95 percent. 32 kills/127 atts, 25 percent. 27 assists. 6 blocks. 61 digs, 79 percent.
PLAYER STATS: Serving- Gilkey 19/19, 3 aces; Ceaglske 10/10; Gaukel 14/15; Christianson 21/13; Smith 11/12; Hales 11/12. Kills- Smith 10; Gilkey 8; Hales 5. Assists- Christianson 18; Ceaglske 9. Digs- Gaukel 16; Hales 14; Christianson 10.
On Saturday the Lady Tigers won all four games they played and was 8-3 in the round robin format against Moorcroft, Upton, Hulett and a rematch with the Lady Doggers. Also facing the north schools was LFL, Southeast and Guernsey-Sunrise. First up for the Lady Tigers was the Lady Wolves-a much improved squad from recent years. Lusk won the first set 25-11 but Moorcroft rebounded to get the second set 25-18. The Lady Tigers left no doubt with a 15-2 third set win.
Next up was Upton- a team the Lady Tigers had already beaten twice-but ranked in the Wyopreps 2A Top 5 ahead of Lusk. NCHS defended their home court with a 25-12 first set win before the Lady Bobcats won the second 25-22. A 9-9 tie in the third set went to the Lady Tigers quickly in the 15-10 win.
No time to rest as Hulett was next up- yet the visitors were no match. Lusk took their only sweep of the day with 25-9 and 25-14 scores. Less than 24 hours removed from a four set win against LFL in the same location, NCHS let the visitors steal the first set 25-23. A long day and Lusk’s deep rotation of hitters wore the Lady Doggers out in winning the second 25-16 and third 15-7 sets with little trouble.
When all was said and done, SE won eight of eight sets played NCHS was 8-3, followed by LFL 7-3, Moorcroft 4-6, Upton 3-6, Hulett 2-6, G-S 0-8.

The JV lost in two sets to LFL 25-15 and 25-23 before a pair of games at the home tournament. First up was Moorcroft as the Lady Tigers won 25-21 before the visitors won the second set 25-18. NCHS also split with Upton as the Lady Bobcats won the first set 25-15 before Lusk rebounded to win 25-18. Jalyn McDaniel served 11 for 12 on Saturday.
The C squad went to Torrington Monday night and came up short 4-1 in five sets.
This week NCHS (13-2) travels to Guernsey for two games Friday and three at Glenrock on Saturday. The Lady Tigers return to the home court for Homecoming (Sept. 25-30) games against Pine Bluffs (Fri.) and Southeast (Sat.). Both are crucial as NCHS gets into the heart of conference play, with a rematch at the Hornet’s Nest a week later.
