Sixteen teams arrived in Lusk last Saturday to play in the recreations traveling basketball tournament. The tournament, which claimed use of both the Lusk Elementary/Middle School gym and the Niobrara County High School gym, ran the entire day on Saturday. Of Lusk’s own teams, the Tigers played both their 5th/6th grade team and the 3rd/4th grade team. Each team was given the chance to play two games during the course of the day. “I thought our teams did wonderful! Most of the other towns that came have had these teams in other tournaments already and this was our first with many first year players” says Shawn Leimser, Recreation Director and coach. Of all the towns involved in the league, only three towns were selected to host tournaments this year, Lusk’s included. The next tournament will be Southeast on January 20. “For the rest of the season I look for our kids to improve a lot. This was their first games of the year and we haven’t had many practices due to the holidays” states Leimser.
