LUSK – The Wyoming Municipal Power Agency (WMPA) is celebrating 50 years of service to its members and the many residents and guests of the state of Wyoming. The agency was formally established February 1, 1976, by the signing of a Joint Powers Agreement between member communities. As of 2026, WMPA members include the municipalities of Cody, Fort Laramie, Guernsey, Lingle, Lusk, Pine Bluffs, Powell and Wheatland.

LUSK — Gubernatorial candidate Eric Barlow will visit Lusk on Tuesday, April 14, for a public event at the Niobrara Country Club.

LUSK - The regular meeting of the Lusk Town Council conducted business as usual in their brief but productive meeting on April 7. A lengthy agenda belied the efficiency as they worked through several license renewals and lease renewals.

LUSK – United States Congresswoman Harriet Hageman will be in Lusk on April 2 for a Town Hall meeting. The Town Hall will be 12 noon to 1 p.m. at Prairie Hills Community Church.

LUSK - Lusk will be celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary on August 8, 2026. Information will be made available about events as the time draws nearer. Meantime, reserve the date.

NIOBRARA – Martin Luther King, Jr. said it best, “Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” This is a truth when it comes to Niobrara County Homemakers raising money for their scholarship fund. The Homemakers prepared homemade soups, salad and desserts during their annual Scholarship Soup and Salad Luncheon held on March 26.

LUSK – There will be a Town Hall with Senator Cheri Steinmetz and House District 2 Representative JD Williams on April 9 at 5:30 p.m. It will be held at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds auditorium and will be hosted by the Niobrara County GOP.

LUSK - Members of the Niobrara County SkillsUSA Chapter presented to the school board at the March 9, 2026, regular meeting.  The purpose of the presentation was to bring awareness to the trustees and the community about the importance of Career and Technical Education (CTE) in our community and schools.

LARAMIE - On March 18–20, 28 Niobrara County High School students traveled to Laramie for the State FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) Conference and what they accomplished is nothing short of incredible.

LUSK – The Niobrara County School District #1 school board, after careful consideration, welcomes new hire Dr. Penny Bolinger as the next superintendent. The decision was made on March 17.

NIOBRARA COUNTY – A community pumpkin patch has been tentatively planned through the Niobrara County University of Wyoming Extension office. Kellie Chichester, the Community Vitality & Health Extension Educator, is currently serving as the 4-H Youth Educator. Chichester presented her idea for a community pumpkin patch at the first County Commissioners’ meeting.

LUSK – The Lusk Elks Lodge B.P.O. #1797 will be hosting their annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 4 at 1 p.m. sharp at Northside Park. The alternate date, if the weather does not cooperate, will be held on April 11 at 1 p.m. sharp.

NIOBRARA COUNTY – During the Niobrara County commissioners’ meeting on March 17, the commissioners signed a fire ban for Niobrara County due to dry weather and extreme winds. This ban will be in effect and lifted only as conditions improve, with moisture and low winds.

Explore Niobrara, the title of the county’s semiquincentennial event, is planning to continue honoring America’s 250th anniversary this year with a celebration in Lusk on August 8. Last fall, “A Day in the Life of Hat Creek” and “A Day in the Life of Node” celebrated those communities. This year, Explore Niobrara also plans to celebrate Van Tassell on June 14, Manville on July 4, and Lance Creek on September 13.

LUSK - Farm fresh eggs, newly separated cream, beef you know the life of. The slow and local food movement is experiencing a revival. With the empty shelves of the global pandemic still in recent memory, more and more individuals are seeking local resources for food. Instead of relying on big food and the big food system they are hoping to find more staples through local farms and ranches. If it just happens to be a good deal financially all the better.

LUSK – Niobrara County School District #1 (NCSD #1) hosted a community forum on March 10 to meet and hear from two candidates vying for the superintendent position, Dr. Penny Bolinger and Charles Hanson II.

LUSK - The Niobrara County Homemakers Council will hold its’20th annual Scholarship Soup and Salad Luncheon on Thursday, March 26th at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds from 11 AM – 1 PM.   Carryout will be available.  The cost of the luncheon is $10.00 per person and includes a salad with one bowl of soup, from a choice of three different varieties, dessert, roll, and beverage.  Children (12 and under) are free.  Advanced tickets may be purchased from any Homemaker Club member or at the Niobrara County Extension Office.  You may also pay at the door the day of the luncheon.

CHEYENNE – Local teen, Helen Olson, recently attended the 4-H Civic Day in Cheyenne.  4-H Civic Day is held for senior-aged 4-H members to have the opportunity to explore the Wyoming State Government during the Legislative session and the event is designed to give youngsters engagement and leadership among other youth 4-Hers. Among those participants, Olson told the Herald she was in awe of the Wyoming State Capitol building and the remodel, completed several years ago, that closely replicated the original Capitol Building.

NIOBRARA – Local ranch worker, Dakota Forkner, was recently involved in a ranching accident and had to be airlifted to Rapid City, South Dakota. Family friends of Dakota and Joce Forkner and the surrounding ranching community have put together fundraisers to help with Dakota’s medical expenses. Forkner injured his shoulder and eye socket, and he will be having surgery on them very soon.
