LANCE CREEK - The afternoon of the 250th Anniversary celebration at Lance Creek, Wyoming, drew around 150 people to the school gymnasium. Tiffany Thurston began by thanking the Explore Niobrara Committee for all their hard work putting the celebration together.

LUSK – The discussion at the Niobrara County School District #1 (NCSD #1) School Board meeting on September 15 ended with a decision to purchase a new video board for the NCHS (Niobrara County High School) gymnasium.

LUSK - On Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend, almost the entire Whiteaker family gathered in Lusk and built a beautiful brick bench as a memorial to Don. They knew how much the golf course and town meant to Don and Dot, and to Marybeth and Tom as they were growing up.

LUSK – Although the community's beloved quilt shop, Lickety Stitch, has closed, owner Karen Wisseman has decided to pursue a different direction to keep offering business opportunities for local vendors.

LUSK – The Niobrara Community Hospital board recently posted on the hospital’s Facebook page to acknowledge Dr. Jolene Falkenburg’s resignation and note its impact on the community.

LANCE CREEK - The Lance Creek Museum was opened in 2008 and founded by Patrick “Pat” Miller. Miller wanted to preserve the history of Lance Creek and the surrounding areas. Miller donated not only his time to this project, but also money, a building and the property.

LUSK - On Wednesday, September 2, at 11:30 a.m., a group of concerned Niobrara County citizens gathered at Prairie Hills Church. Over 50 people attended the meeting after learning that Dr. Joleen Falkenburg, MD, had resigned from her position at Niobrara County Hospital.

LUSK – It will be 25 years since America was attacked on September 11, 2001, and Niobrara County High School (NCHS) students will be honoring the victims of the 9/11 tragedy on September 11 during the Tigers vs. Sundance football game at 6 p.m.

LUSK - The community certainly felt vibrant during the extension CVH Flower pop-up party recently hosted by CVH coordinator Kellie Chichester at the Oneoke Pavilion at the fairgrounds. Attendees at the flower pop-up had the opportunity to cut their own flowers, learn about floral arranging from a local florist and then take their project home.

NIOBRARA COUNTY - Did you know Lance Creek once had a population of 1,500 to 2,000 people? Or that it boasted all the businesses that Lusk or Manville had except a hotel? Or that it had facilities …

NIOBRARA COUNTY – Lusk Volunteer Fire Department and Niobrara County Rural Fire District firemen responded to a call at 2:51 a.m. on August 25 to a country fire reported on Hat Creek Road.

LUSK  - Marking a monumental milestone in state correctional education, the Wyoming Department of Corrections (WDOC) and the University of Wyoming (UW) celebrated the historic graduation of the very first cohort of students from the Wyoming Women’s Center(WWC). Thursday, Aug 20, 2026, with their family, friends, faculty and staff present, six accomplished scholars officially received their Bachelor of Arts degrees in General Studies.

LANCE CREEK - Gas from three wells in Cow Gulch in June 1917 heralded the Lance Creek boom. Up until then, the area was noted mainly for the raising of cattle, but little did anyone dream that in years to come, the Lance Creek Oil Field would be the largest producing field in the Rocky Mountain region of high-grade crude oil and the fourth largest field in the United States.

LUSK – The Lusk Volunteer Fire Department (LVFD) will be hosting its annual three-man 18-hole scramble on September 12. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Tee Off will be at 10 a.m. (Mulligans are available to purchase).

LUSK – Dr. Rene H. B. Fraaije, owner of the Het Oertijdmuseum in Boxtel, Netherlands, has pursued his passion for excavating dinosaur fossils worldwide since childhood. With Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota being rich in fossils, Fraaije has been spending more and more time in Niobrara County digging up the past.

NIOBRARA COUNTY – During the Niobrara County Commissioners meeting on August 25, County Attorney Anne Wasserburger said the Niobrara Community Juvenile Services program is underway and has youth enrolled. The contract is complete and is being signed by all parties and then grant funding will begin paying for the program. The program works with local youth who have come into contact with law enforcement. Its purpose is to provide early intervention and support services to address concerns before they escalate and, when possible, keep youth out of the formal court system. Aaron Whitten has been hired as the Niobrara Community Juvenile Services Coordinator.

NIOBRARA COUNTY – The Primary Election began on August 18 at 7 a.m. and ran until 7 p.m. Unofficial results were made available shortly before 11 p.m.

LUSK – John Graham is not only known as a faithful friend to all; he has brought Coyote Days to Niobrara County for eight years, hosting over 20 demonstrations throughout the two-day event on August 14 and 15.

LUSK – Niobrara County School District #1 has implemented a cell phone use policy at Lusk Elementary/Middle School for the last few years and, with the new school year, will begin implementing it at Niobrara County High School.

LUSK - On August 8 at approximately 9:18 p.m., the Lusk Volunteer Fire Department responded to a single motorcycle crash with two injured. Lusk EMS arrived on scene and confirmed that Life Flight was needed. The patients were transferred to Manville, where the Three Sisters Truck Stop was the optimal landing zone for Flight for Life.
