Gertrude "Trudy" L. Lee

November 11, 1929 - September 4, 2024

Gertrude "Trudy" L. Lee, 94, of Silver Creek, Nebraska, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Genoa Long Term Care, Genoa, Nebraska.

Gertrude “Trudy” Lerene Lee was born November 11, 1929, in Rockford, Illinois, to Vincent and Mary Ellen (Leffingwell) Carroll.  At the young age of four, Trudy moved with her mother, uncle, and grandfather Leffingwell to Hat Creek, Wyoming.  They later moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming, then finally Lusk, Wyoming, where Trudy went to school and began waiting tables.  While working in Lusk, Trudy met Robert “Bob” Lee, a jockey and horse trainer.  The couple were united in marriage on July 21, 1948, in Columbus, Nebraska.  This began a life of adventure and excitement.

This new union brought three blessings to the couple – Monty Douglas, Lydia Ellen, and Robert Clark “Bobby”.  Trudy and Bob traveled all over the country with the horse racing circuit, from South Dakota, West Virginia, Arizona, and Nebraska where they finally made their home on a farm near Silver Creek.  When not traveling with the circuit, you could find Trudy at home working with the horses, training, breeding, and raising future hopefuls.  She enjoyed every aspect of the business, but especially the friends that she met from coast to coast, border to border.  Trudy may have had it tough and a life full of heartaches along the way, but always loved a good laugh and smile.

Trudy is survived by: Her grandson, Michael Luark of Silver Creek, Nebraska, one Great Granddaughter, various extended family members and a host of friends from the horse racing circuit.

Trudy was preceded in death by: Her Father, Vincent Carroll, Mother, Mary Ellen Carroll, Husband , Robert E. “Red” Lee in 2016, Son, Robert Clark “Bobby” Lee in 2007, Daughter, Lydia Ellen Luark in 2013, Son, Monty Douglas Lee in 2015, Son-in-law, Monty Luark in 2022, and Grandson, Jerimy and Andrew Luark in 1990.

The funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 10, at 2 p.m., at Twin River Methodist Parish in Silver Creek, Nebraska, with Pastor Connie Kramer officiating.  Interment was in Silver Creek Cemetery.  Visitation was held on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.  The funeral service was broadcasted live on Gass Haney Funeral Home Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057043736890
