LUSK - Sheila (Sides) Tangney, a member of Lusk Drove #64 of the Benevolent, Patriotic Order of DOES, was installed as Supreme President of the Grand Lodge, Benevolent, Patriotic Order of DOES on June 6, in Loveland, Colorado. She is the third Supreme President from Wyoming in the 103-year existence of the organization. Her husband Jim is her “Bullshipper” President. In attendance were members of her family and Drove, friends, and Grand Lodge Members. A reception followed the Installation Ceremony.

Sheila joined Lusk Drove #64, Wyoming, in 1980 – the same year that her mother did.  As she did not live in Lusk at that time, she helped whenever she was “home”.

In 2004 she and her husband moved to Lusk to be near their parents.  With her return to Lusk, Sheila became active in the local Drove.  The first year she was a Color Bearer, then received the Conductor’s Staff from her mother in 2005, remaining in that position until 2021.  In 2021 and 2022 she served as Drove President.  2023 found her in the First Counselor’s Position, and also serving as Wyoming State President.

She became a Grand Lodge Member in Des Moines, Iowa in 2011.  She served as Color Bearer twice at Grand Lodge, as Supreme Chaplain, on the Registration Committee, and as co-chair of the Registration Committee.  In 2019 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, she took the leap and ran for the office of Supreme Outer Guard.  2020 Grand Lodge was cancelled because of COVID, so in 2021 she served as Outer Guard and Inner Guard, and left Omaha, Nebraska, as Supreme Conductor.  She served in the Conductor’s Position in Phoenix, Arizona in 2022.  Arriving in Greenville, South Carolina, in 2023 as Supreme Junior Counselor, Sheila was asked if she would take the position of Supreme President Elect for 2024 and chose to accept.

Her theme for her year as Supreme President is “Scatter Kindness”. Sheila feels that “in a world where you can be anything, be kind”.  Her symbol is a small black cat, her color is wedgewood blue, and her song is “What a Wonderful World.
