Young Tigers swing into golf season

Posted

LUSK – The Niobrara County High School golf team is very young this season, but Ed Fullmer has a few that have worked hard to improve their game. Sophomores Hudson Leimser and Aubrey Manning both got their first taste of the state tournament as freshmen and have higher expectations this fall.

“Hudson and Aubrey have spent a lot of time working on their game,” said the fifth year head coach. “They’ve been out here playing and I’m excited to see where that effort pays off.”

Junior Fran Bannan is the lone Lady Tiger this fall, and after picking up the game barely a year ago, seems to be developing a love for golf. Fullmer added that she was seen playing quite regularly this summer.

“She played in a few tournaments last spring, and I think that confidence thing is there with Fran,” noted Fullmer. “She will be kind of out there on her own, but gets along well with this group of boys we’ve got.”

Junior Charlie Gaukel played last fall and has begun to see some tournament time. Sophomores Keen Coffman and Corbin Matthews are fairly new to golf and Fullmer hopes they can improve to possibly play in a couple tournaments.

The season has already begun and almost as quickly will be over before September ends. The Lusk Invitational is September 13-14 and state will be in Sheridan September 20-21. The state tournament is hosted by Sheridan from September 20-21.
