County Commissioners table fairground property

NIOBRARA COUNTY – Nio- brara County Commissioner met on September 3 for their regular meeting. A brief discussion was held concerning the proposed sale of an acre of land that is part of the Niobrara County Fair- grounds. Because the commis- sioners have not heard from Big D Oil Company concerning this matter, it was again tabled until the company communicates with the commissioners.

Road and Bridge Foreman Fred Thomas updated the commission- er about upcoming construction projects. Thomas said that the contractor who was slated to per- form work on a headwall and cat- tle guards has about 17 days left to complete these projects. Thomas spoke with the contractor last Friday and the contractor said he would begin work this week. The contractor apologized for the late- ness of beginning, which he at- tributed to unforeseen delays.

Thomas and the commissioners conferred with Brian Wakefield from Benchmark Engineering and Survey Company. Brian told the commissioners that the pos- sibility of an extension could be recommended at the next county commissioners meeting.

Thomas reported that Road and Bridge employees have completed 11 miles of laying gravel on Boner Road and have another six miles to gravel.

Thomas reported a fire on 20- Mile Road last week. According to Thomas, the county was one among those that helped with con- tainment of the fire. It was eventu- ally extinguished. It took a group
