LUSK – Lusk Town Council met on September 3 and heard complaints from visitors.

Stan Rutherford criticized the wording of the town’s noise ordinance, which allows for a noise complaint at any time of the day. Rutherford has received several complaints about the noise level at his property. Ruther- ford said that his neighbor continually calls the Police with claims that his daughter is playing her radio too loud. Rutherford told the council that his daughter only plays her radio between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Lusk Police Chief Jacob Gordon told Rutherford that citations are left to the discretion of the re- sponding police officers. So far, no citations have been issued. Rutherford has only re- ceived warnings. Rutherford asked the council if they would reword the ordinance. Pro tem Mayor Tom Dooper told Rutherford that the ordinance would not be rewritten and the Town of Lusk’s noise ordinance comports with State of Wyoming Statutes concerning noise ordinances.

Tom  Wasserburger, the proprietor of the Best Western Motel, voiced grievances con- cerning Oftedal, a construction company re- sponsible updating the town’s sewer system. According to Wasserburger, Oftedal had raised the street too far up and that he has been having issues with excess water drain- age on his property. Wasserburger showed photos that he had taken of the areas in question. Senior Engineer Bruce Perryman addressed the issues with Wasserburger. Perryman and Wasserburger arrived at an agreement concerning the matter.

Ron Bukowski also voiced grievances, as- serting that it was unfair to be charged by the town for garbage when he doesn’t use his lot for his garbage. The council said they would look into the matter further and would let him know.

The council approved signs concerning al- cohol usage to be posted at North Park and the disposal of garbage at the park.

Animal Control Officer Doug Jergensen’s contract was approved for renewal by the council.

Chief Gordon was pleased to announce that Niobrara County School District #1 and

the Town of Lusk had signed a MOU (memorandum of understanding) be- tween all three agencies concerning the school resource officer (SRO) posi- tion. According to Chief Gordon, Offi- cer Chris Smith has filled this role and

is now working as the SRO in Lusk Elementary/Middle School, Niobr- ara County High School and Lance Creek.

Lusk-Niobrara Ambulance Director Mike Mayville told the council that an anonymous donor gave $100,000 to the ambulance fund. The Medical Foun-

dation donated $800 to purchase new AED’s (Automated External Defibrilla- tor). Mayville told the council that the Ambulance Service will be training on how to use the AED’s this Thursday.

The next Town of Lusk Council meet- ing will be held October 1 at 5 p.m. at Townhall.
