SCOTTSBLUFF – On Friday night, shortly after the Panhandle Prep Sports Magazine all-star game, recent Niobrara County High School (NCHS) graduate Aidan Mattheus signed his letter of intent. He will continue his basketball career at York University in Nebraska while pursuing a degree in business administration.
Mattheus came to NCHS for his senior year after two all-conference basketball honors at Lingle-Fort Laramie. He led the Tigers in scoring, three pointers and steals and was second in rebounds.
“It’s a great opportunity for him,” NCHS basketball coach Ed Fullmer said. “He loves the game, but still is kind of raw and finding his way on the court. He’s got a great upside and knows it’s not going to be easy, but I think Aidan is capable and we all hope for the best for him.”
Lusk went 20-8 on the season with a 2A state runner-up finish and placed third at regionals. Mattheus was named to the 2A Southeast all-region team and the all-SEWAC team and was honored on the all-state team.
“After a few camps and invites to campuses I think I found the right one,” said Mattheus. “I liked the coaches and facilities, so I think it will be a good fit.”
York University competes at the NAIA level in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
