The Niobrara County Cattlewomen celebrated their Christmas party on December 13 with members and a guest speaker, the president of the Wyoming Cattlewomen, Tani Wohlbrandt.
The stated goal of the Niobrara County Cattlewomen has been the positive promotion of beef.
Originally known as the Wyoming Cow-Belles, the group was organized by Charlotte Snodgrass on June 6, 1940. Ladies made up the group and were motivated to do more within the livestock industry. Their name changed in 1992 to the Wyoming CattleWomen, Inc.
They offer two scholarships a year. For the 2024 scholarship, applicants simply need to write a 500-word essay introducing themselves and explaining how their education will benefit agriculture. The scholarship is available for anyone and there are no age limits. The deadline for the 2024 scholarship will be February 29, 2024. Winners will be notified by April 15. Winners will be asked to attend the state meeting in Douglas in June. They will also receive a one-year membership in the Wyoming CattleWomen. Essays can be emailed to wyocwsecretary@gmail.com.
According to Sarah Wick, the president of the Niobrara CattleWomen, the organization hosts fundraisers throughout the year. The funds raised by these events go towards two $500 scholarships that the Niobrara CattleWomen award in the spring. Those that apply must be either Niobrara County High School graduates or Niobrara County residents.
One of the Cattlewomen’s main events is the Ag Expo, which is hosted for third and fourth graders at LEMS (Lusk Elementary/Middle School
The Cattlewomen will also be hosting the Mustard Seed Dinner in February 2024.
Guests were entertained by LEMS kindergarten class with Christmas songs. Stacy Jenne from the AU7 Ranch recited her poetry. Jenne has recently retired and has been enjoying reading her poetry all over the state. She caters with 3 Chicks Creations.
Wyoming CattleWomen State President Wohlbrandt gave a small speech. She complimented the community of Lusk and expressed gratitude for her invitation to the party. She also wanted extended an invitation for anyone to join the group. Potential members do not have to be ranchers or part of a ranching family. All are welcome.
Ronda Pfister prepared the meal, which included roast beef, mashed potatoes and green beans with bacon. Cheesecake was prepared by Nancy Harsy-Pullis. Pfister presented two gift baskets to Sarah Wick and Hillary Brown, all were praised them both for all of their help and dedication throughout the year.
