The Special Meeting of the Niobrara County Commissioners was called to order on June 25, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. with Chairman Patrick H. Wade, Vice-Chairman John Midkiff, Commissioner Elaine Griffith, County Attorney Anne Wasserburger, and County Clerk Becky L. Freeman in attendance.
The purpose of the special meeting was to discuss the victim services program with Attorney Wasserburger.
She provided a brief history of the program and said the State did not provide funding to Helpmate this year as far as the victim services program in Niobrara County was concerned
She said she was approached by the State and was asked if she would be interested in taking over the victim services program. She said that it is a growing trend to have the county attorney’s office provide victim services.
She would like to move forward with the program and use her current staff to handle the cases. She said all costs associated with the program will be covered by the grant.
The State will waive the application process this year, but she must submit a proposal for the next two years.
Commissioner Griffith moved to authorize the county attorney to move forward in applying for victim services grant funding. Vice-Chairman Midkiff seconded, and the motion carried.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:15 a.m.
