LUSK – The Niobrara County High School Tiger golf fall season continued with a busy couple weeks of play in Moorcroft, Wright, Newcastle and Lusk.

On August 30, the Tigers headed into the Labor Day break with a meet at Pine Haven Golf Club near Moorcroft. Hudson Leimser placed 10th with an 89, Aubrey Manning was 17th with an even 100. Newcomers Keen Coffman, Joaquin Cassiano and Charlie Gaukel all posted career best scores with 111, 113 and 120, respectively.

The weekend following the Labor Day Break the Tigers travelled to Haycreek Golf Course in Wright on Friday and Newcastle Country Club on Saturday.

In Wright, Leimser matched a career best 85 to tie for fourth place. Manning finished in 10th place with a 98. Gaukel set another career low shooting 118 on the difficult course.

Coffman shot a 124, Cassiano a 139 and Corbin Matthews a 144.

Lone girl golfer Francheska Bannan shot a 150.

In Newcastle the following day the Tigers struggled. Coffman shot a 129 and Cassiano a 130. Leimser had some accuracy issues on his way to a 97 that did earn him fifth. Manning showed his consistency with a 98 to earn sixth.

The best performing golfer of the day was Gaukel who shot another career best of 116, highlighted by his first ever birdie, a two on the par-three second.

Bannan also improved from the previous day, knocking four shots off her Wright score to post a 146.

The Tigers hosted their invitational tournament on September 13-14. The Niobrara Country Club was in wonderful condition and the players were challenged with fast greens and gusty winds.

Manning led the way for the Tigers with a two-day score of 200. Showing his consistency, Manning fired an even 100 on both days to earn a tie for 8th place.

Leimser shot a 203 to finish in 10th. Gaukel, who continues to show improvement, shot a 122-119 for a 241 to earn his first ever top 20 finish.

Cassiano shot 269 and Coffman shot a 121 on Saturday.

Bannan fired a 150-155 for a 305 on the weekend.

The Tigers will conclude their season this Friday and Saturday with the 2A state tournament at Sheridan’s Kendrick Golf Course. The 36-hole tournament begins at 10:00 am Friday morning.
