LUSK - Some students come full circle, becoming either instructors or part of the administrative machinery that constitutes a considerable portion of the educational establishment. Such is the case with Tyler Crisman, a member of Niobrara County High School’s Class of 2000. Crisman joined the University of Wyoming (UW) as associate vice president and dean of students on July 28. Yet, the tug of hometown ties pulled Crisman back to Lusk on October 29 when he spoke at the “UW in your community event” in the Niobrara County Fairgrounds auditorium.

LUSK – The Niobrara County School District #1 (NCSD #1) school board discussed the second reading of its conceal carry policy on October 20. The discussion centered on the policy’s language, stipulations for hours of live shooting training, and active shooter scenarios. The second reading of the policy, dubbed CKA Firearms Personnel Authorized to Carry, was allowed to fail so that the board could make changes concerning these areas.

LUSK – Lusk’s downtown business owners will be expecting superheroes, spooks and ghouls during the Niobrara Chamber of Commerce sponsored Downtown Trick-or-Treating and after the 4-H annual Halloween Carnival.

NIOBRARA COUNTY – The Niobrara Community Hospital District proudly hosted its 4th Annual Pink Ribbon 5K this October, bringing together community members, families, and supporters to raise awareness for breast cancer. The event, now a small but mighty local tradition, continues to shine a light on the importance of early detection, community support, and hope for those affected by breast cancer.

LUSK – P.E.O. (Philanthropic Edu- cational Organiza- tion) Chapter 1 hosted their 47th annual soup and salad lun- cheon on October 9. The annual soup and salad luncheon is P.E.O. largest fundraiser during the year to raise money specifically for their scholarships for women. According to Danese Reed, co-president, the scholarships help to support local women in their desires to further their education.

CASPER – Former Lusk resident Phyllis Hahn, 95, recently competed in the annual Primrose Retirement Community company-wide spelling bee competition.

LUSK – The Lusk Volunteer Fire Department hosted their open house and free BBQ on October 4. Locals enjoyed cheeseburgers, hot dogs, French fries and homemade cookies during the BBQ.
